Is Obama turning this country into social democracy?

I get the feeling that Obama is laying the stepping stones to turn the economy/politics of this nation into social democratic one much like the welfare systems of the Nordic Countries (Sweden, Norway, Finland, etc).. Now whether this has a positive or negative effect on America (depending on view point) is this…

No, not a Social Democracy, but he is trying to steer it towards being a Socialistic nation. Don’t believe me? Look at the “government takeover” of GM; look very closely at his Health Reform Plan; look carefully at the bailout for banks; look at his Education Bill; and many more of his plans. Remember what happened to the USSR (Union of Socialistic Society of Russia)? – It is no longer in existence. Look at his foray into municipal policies (the Harvard police incident). A sitting president has never been involved in such an act until now. BO promised change and he is keeping his word – on a downhill slide on a very steep slope. It is a shame that so many people still refuse to open their eyes and ears to what has been happening since 26 Jan 2009. May God bless us all and have mercy upon us.

Nothing. Unless George W. Bush and Dick Cheney completely destroy our Constitution before January 20, 2009 Obama would be termed out in 2012. With a great deal of power brokering and great skill we will be fortunate to take the second step to socialism in the USA, that is Universal Health Insurance. The first step was taken when the taxpayers became investors in the banking, investment and insurance industries in this country. So, who is the socialist?

I think you’re wrong. When the “rich” hold out their hand for all the ”freebees”…..they never, ever call it ”socialism”

John McCain’s son, Andrew, who is CFO of his mom’s beer distributorship, “sat on the boards of Silver State Bank and of its parent, Silver State Bancorp, starting in February but resigned in July citing ‘personal reasons.’ Andrew McCain also was a member of the bank’s audit committee, responsible for oversight of the company’s accounting,” according to AP.

The failure — which was caused by “poor-quality loans primarily related to real estate development” — will cost the FDIC deposit insurance fund between “$450 million [and] $550 million,” according to AP. Silver State’s motto was “When the casinos treat you poorly, let Silver State treat you like a valued customer,” according to its website.

Although AP reports he was adopted by McCain and his first wife, Andrew is following in his father’s footsteps. John McCain protected Charles Keating from government regulators because he had arranged a real estate deal for his second wife, Cindy. The failure of Keating’s S&L cost taxpayers $3.4 billion. Taxpayers got off relatively cheaply bailing out Andrew’s former colleagues.

Some Independant politicians refer to this as ” WELFARE FOR THE RICH “.

At any rate – it is socialism

All in all he is destroying this country and turning it into something it is not. But he is not the first politician to do so, he is just doing it at a faster rate than anyone before him.

I was struck by the fact that there was no poverty in Norway when I visited that nation. They have done a wonderful job in eliminating a huge social problem. It is a fully literate, wealthy nation that has its priorities correct.

Obama is bringing this nation closer together. He is getting people to care about people again. He is repairing America to what America was supposed to stand for.

He is truely a living legend
God Bless Obama

Nah, he’s not quite that far left. He’s just trying to put a few social programs in place, and repair the damage Bush did.

You mean as opposed to a pseudo democracy such as we had with Bush.

like Europe?, no

like China? yes

well at least you didnt say socialist. but no, the US is still very right wing compared to many countries.
