Are you suggesting that if someone convinced you that the Christian god was nonexistent, that you would simply go around raping, stealing, and murdering? Are you honestly saying that your morals come directly from the Bible and not from human instinct? Why aren’t atheists completely barbaric?
well, I’m muslim, in our Islam religion we believe that your manners should speak of your religion not the vise verse, meaning that you’re the mirror of your religion assets or meanings.
we also believe that the good ones in no religion (can make or) are the good ones in Islam.
خياركم فى الجاهلية، خياركم فى الإسلام
unfortunately, in islamic countries, you may see muslims without Islam (without what Allah has ordered us to do or to say or to even wear). we became as Clowns wearing different kind of cloths but not himself.
last, I and Muslims don’t ever believe that a persons manners adequate with his religion type. you might be with no religion but you stick with rules, manners, ethics, believes that makes you an angel not just a human. after all, only God will be the judge at the end of your journey, claiming you heaven or hell.
why, why, WHY do we transport to heaven all the good things humans have?
love, peace, harmony, alms to the poor, etc, etc.
religious people keeps on saying that man are born wicked that needs to be saved.
to this day i still don’t get the idea of salvation.
are you worshiping out of fear?
i just don’t get the idea that God puts us in here to “test” us and watches our every move.
to religious people i say this: you’re giving God less credit for what He truly is.
having said that, to me, us humans are born to have the capacity to do evil and good,
regardless of having faith or not. the depths of our moral values depends on how we are brought up, the principles we live by – and not on our faith.
you say atheists are barbaric, animal-like. well i ask you religious, clean, holy, men:
when was the last time a rooster raped one of its young ones?
@muffypuppy – you are the most levelheaded christian i ever encountered
A moral Catholic: A close friend I had known for 28 years recently celebrated her birthday; she ordered a limo, and couldn’t pay for it so I loaned her the money; she couldn’t afford a new dress so I loaned her one; I also bought her a bag for her birthday – I walk with the aid of crutches but five days before the celebration I broke my wrist so I couldn’t walk too well on one crutch – but I said I would be there to support her. When we got to the club the bouncer wouldn’t let me in. She just left me there; on the street with no way of getting home. I had to rely on the help of strangers to get me a taxi home. I wouldn’t leave a broken up stray dog on the streets, yet this Catholic could do it to a human being. Morality? Theist haven’t got a clue. She prays a lot too, so I’m assuming she prayed to God for forgiveness and moved on. The hypocrisy of these people I have seen up close many times and I am a far more moral person than 99% of my religious friends.
I would also like to point out that people had morals well before the bible, just not the same ones we have today. Morality has evolved. Slavery wasn’t abolished because of the bible, which we now have come to the conclusion that slavery is immoral. Actually, the bible was fuel for slavery because it condones it. This is evidence morality is not derived from the bible.
You are wrong and to be precise absolutely wrong! Atheists have more morality and higher social maturity and responsibility to stay fit to confirm that by non believing they do not become immoral and indecent etc which I could see more with the GOD believers! In fact the atheists whom I know are found to be good people having vast knowledge on everything on Earth and are also responsible parents and citizens of our nation India!
Of course their morals do not come straight from the bible or they’d all be raping, stealing and murdering instead of just a disproportionally high number of them.
The bible agrees with you that morals come from also from human instinct and not only the bible.
Paul writes in his letter to the Romans: …..All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do BY NATURE things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are WRITTEN ON THEIR HEARTS, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.
Stand up and take a bow my dear good sir. You deserve an award. I have been trying to get that point across to people who believe that way for SO LONG.
Indeed. I defy any of these individuals to pick out an atheist in a crowd.
(Clue: we don’t dress like Waldo)
Nonbeliever: I would not have sex with an animal because it is wrong on every level and because the animal can not consent.
Believer: I would not have sex with an animal because god says not to.
Which is the more moral person?
How many times are you going to ask this question in an hour?
We do not say that they have no moral values. That is YOUR argument. We state that they have no ABSOLUTE morals. Their morals are subject to cultural change. That is why murder is not wrong if the victim is an unborn child, stealing is okay if you need food to survive, and raping is condoned as long as they are married. And, we do find those ideas barbaric.
But, atheists have received a revelation from God as well. The problem is that they reject the divine authority and feel free to change the morals to suit their circumstances…
